Also included you will find care instructions and your receipt.

Precautions for Use:

Ensure vehicle roof is clean, dry and free of grease, wax polish and ice. The sign should be placed centrally on the roof ensuring that magnets have maximum contact with the surface. Do not exceed the legal speed limit and in adverse weather conditions such as strong winds, ice and heavy snowfall, remove sign from the roof.  Do not leave the sign on the vehicle when there is a risk of ice as overnight ice as ice can creep beneath magnets and the sign may raise slightly and lose grip.

Positioning:
Position the roof sign in the most optimum adherence to the roof, rest the sign on the long edge, placing your hands beneath the sign on the opposite edge and lower gently into position. Never try to push or pull from the front or top sign facings .

To Remove:
DO NOT raise or lower the roof sign from a short edge or the by pushing the top of the sign. Place hands underneath the long edge, lift and tilt to raise the magnets. To prevent damage to vehicle paintwork when placing or removing the sign, we recommend application of a "clear protective vinyl" (roof film) ... see roof sign section for protective roof film

Repositioning  of Mag Pads
A current trend with motor vehicle manufacturers is to design cars with shallow ridges or a central channel, for example Peugeot 208, Ford Fiesta and Nissan Micra 2017 on. (see over). Our signs can be used with these D section roofs, providing the optional rubber roof protector (gasket) see sku 331, is used and the mag pads are correctly positioned for full contact with the vehicle roof.
  1. Open the six nuts to release the roof sign from its base
  2. Place the base on the vehicle roof and select the optimum roof sign position, check, if one or all mag pads need repositioning.
  3. Mark ideal mag pad position/s on the base plate
  4. Use one of the existing spacers as a template and drill new fixing holes (6mm) Note: however, that the magnets must be evenly spaced about the centre line
  5. Place the base plate on the roof to ensure all mag pads are adhering to the roof, before replacing the existing plastic nuts. Do not over tighten and check your roof sign on a regular basis.

See Roof Sign Section -Spares and Replacement for additional products i.e. mag pad spacers, mag pads, protective rubber and roof film  etc.,

Roof Sign Easy Care:
Washing the sign  or magnetic door panels periodically with warm soapy water should be sufficient to keep the these clean, providing it is undertaken regularly. To avoid damage to the vinyl, do not use abrasives or pressure wash your sign.

Getting the Best from Your Roof Sign!!!!

Aero Roof Sign- Blank You need a roof sign to ensure the safety of your clients/ learners, essentially you are informing vehicles around, especially from behind that a learner driver is ahead and to allow a little more time and patience, rather than just driving with just an L plate.

A Well-Designed Roof Sign is Your Advertisement and will Bring in New Business.
A less cluttered your sign has a better impact, we advise a maximum number of 3 lines of text and forget about special effects and logos, on average your sign has about 440x190 advertising space for a medium sign and 500x190 for a large sign . Remember you want the passengers in a vehicle 3 to 4  or more cars behind or a person standing waiting for a bus to be able to read and take note of your name and number!!!  While we are happy to accommodate your choice of wording, line spacing or logos, remember the most important message to get across is your business name, web presence and contact number.

About Magnetic Roof Signs.
No manufacturer can give an absolute speed rating for a roof sign, it would be impossible to assess every type of car in every possible  weather condition. What we can tell you is that the signs we supply at Driver Education Supplies have the strongest magnet assembly available in the Irish market. Like all manufacturers we caution that any roof sign should not be used beyond the maximum speed limit in the Ireland, that is 120 kph and also caution that any roof sign should not be used in extreme winds. Consider what you’re your expecting your roof sign to cope with, if you are driving at 120 kph into a headwind gusting up to 80 kph  then you are expecting the sign to cope with a net speed of 200 kph. Air resistance increases with the square of speed, so the traditional  Apex roof sign becomes a real drag as your speed increases and the forces on it can be quite substantial. Consider using one of our aero signs which are designed for reduced drag!

Remember.
The driver is responsible for the vehicle and any load on it, so the driver (or instructor teaching a client) is responsible for taking the decision as to whether a roof sign can be safely used for the proposed lesson in the prevailing conditions. Again, common sense is required. You should always ensure you have spare Magnetic L-Plates in your vehicle should you feel that conditions are too severe to risk using a roof sign.

Whichever, sign you use, keep it in tip-top condition, and regularly check that the base of the roof sign is securely attached to the hood and that the magnet assemblies are secure to the roof surface. You are advised to remove the sign in suspect weather conditions and where their is risk of frost or ice, also don't over polish your vehicle, where the roof sign is being placed, always remove when going through car washes, and only clean your roof sign with warm soapy water, never use any hard abrasives.

Important... Have you a Raised, Channel or a Ribbed Roof?
With the emergence of new roof detailing on modern cars, i.e., ribs, ridges, channels, curved shapes or flat roofs, it is advisable to check that the roof sign suitably fits. In many cases our signs will fit with the addition of additional roof sign spacers or by simply readjusting (moving) the mag pads. (see below... additional mag pads or mag pad spacers) If you are replacing an existing sign, measure the overall length and place it in the information box when ordering at the checkout.  Alternatively give us the name, model and year, you may also wish to take an image of the vehicle roof from the rear of the car and forward it to us via email. Another option would be to try on another ADI's roof sign to see what sign more suitable for your vehicle model.

If this option is not available, then as a general guide, stand at the rear of your vehicle, if your vehicle roof has a curvature, looking from right to left, (side to side or passenger door to passenger door, it would appear that the medium sign could suit best. This sign comes with a curvature to accommodate the vehicle roof curvature and is 50mm shorter than the large/regular sign), if your roof is flat, select a regular/large sign, however you should note we can only give advice on suitability, this advice is given in good faith where no responsibility can be born by us for a personalised sign, ordered and made.

Extra Mag Pads & Spacers
Please also note, on some vehicles with side ribs or deep channels, you may require additional mag pads or mag pad spacers, these are simple and quick to fit.  This is simply done by opening the six nuts and separate the sign hood from it's base and add the mag pad spacers or realign mag pads to a better and more suitable area on the roof and replace the hood to the base using the existing nuts and bolts.

Magnetic Roof Signs are Designed to be Attached to a Uniform Ferrous Metal Surface.
Magnetic roof signs are designed to be attached to a uniform ferrous metal surface. for example a panoramic glass roof or metal roof with large creases/ridges may not be capable of supporting a full-size sign. If you are unsure of the size of sign please give the make, model and year of your vehicle where we may be able to advise or why not ask a driving instructor instructor/ trainer to try on their roof sign on your vehicle for size.  Note the Length x Width x Height and forward us the size and we may match it,  however the final choice of roof sign rests with the purchaser, as any personalised products once made cannot be returned.

Roof Sign Illumination
Illuminated
signs have the same dimensions as our Acrylic signs but are made from a translucent material which appears white in daylight. Signs are illuminated with 12V LED lighting powered by the lead supplied. The lead can be unplugged from the sign base and is designed to be wired into the vehicle sidelight circuit or alternatively can be wired to a cigar lighter plug, (not supplied), if your car has a cigar lighter socket! .

Black or Silver Roof Signs
Some of our more popular signs are available in UV-stable acrylic-capped gloss black or gloss silver material. Although a little more expensive to produce these signs can really make your make your business stand out from the crowd.

Signage Precautions:
On receipt of signage you should take note of the 'precautions for use' and application instructions supplied with the product and keep safe for future reference.
