Precautions for Use: Ensure vehicle roof is clean, dry and free of grease, wax polish and ice. The sign should be placed centrally on the roof ensuring that magnets have maximum contact with the surface. Do not exceed the legal speed limit In adverse weather conditions such as strong winds, remove sign from roof. Do not leave the sign on the vehicle when there is a risk of ice as overnight ice can creep beneath magnets and the sign may lose grip. Positioning: Place centrally on the roof, rest the sign on a long edge placing your hands beneath the sign on the opposite edge and lower gently into position. To Remove: Place hands underneath a long edge and tilt to raise the magnets. DO NOT raise or lower sign from a short edge. To prevent damage to vehicle paintwork when placing or removing the sign, we recommend application of a "clear protective vinyl" (roof film) ... see protective roof film Roof Sign Easy Care: Washing the sign periodically with soapy water should be sufficient to keep the sign clean. To avoid damage to the vinyl, do not use abrasives or pressure wash your sign. Our roof sign range one of the lightest in the world and the strongest in the market, our magnetic roof signs feature a brilliant white smooth gloss finish and long life UV-stability, however it should be noted that signs are not guaranteed to fade or yellow with age. The base assembly of our roof signs is fitted with extremely powerful but light weight magnetic pads, each comprising rare earth (neodymium) magnets. The magnets are encased in rubber and the sign bases hand-finished to minimise the risk of damage to vehicle paintwork. These light-weight, practical and unique roof sign assemblies are only available from Driver Education Supplies. Note: That all roof signs we supply to driver trainers are designed to accommodate a legal sized L-Plate including the legally required white space. Roof Sign Sizes & Vehicle Specifics: Some vehicles have high roof curvature which restricts the choice of suitable roof sign. If you are using or intend to use a Ford KA, Opel Corsa 2007 on, Nissan Micra 2003 on, BMW Mini One, VW BEETLE, Fiat 500, Mazda 2, Seat Ibiza 2010 on, Hyundai I10 (2010-2014) we suggest you choose from the Medium or Aero range of roof signs which will accommodate the roof curvature. In some cases, where roof curvature is not ideal for any of our range of signs we will also recommend that you purchase a rubber roof protector* fitted to avoid the possibility of paintwork damage. If you are unsure which sign to choose, or you are about to start using a new model, please contact us for advice. Aero Roof Signs Advertise to the rear and sides!! Aero roof signs feature display areas to the rear and sides - advertising to potential customers on the footpath rather than just the driver behind! The Aero is not as wide as other roof signs. This overcomes most problems related to roof curvature so these signs are suitable for all vehicles. We also supply a 'Small Roof Sign which simply accommodates the Regulation Red L, for those who want the convenience of a roof box but don't need advertising display or tuition in a clients own vehicle. Roof Sign Illumination: Illuminated signs have the same dimensions as our Acrylic Apex Signs but are made from a translucent material which appears white in daylight. These signs are illuminated with 12V LED lighting powered by the lead supplied. The lead can be unplugged from the sign base and is designed to be wired into the vehicle sidelight circuit or directly to the cigar lighter Black, White and Silver Signs: Some of our more popular signs are available in UV-stable acrylic-capped gloss black or gloss silver material. Although a little more expensive to produce these signs can really make your make your business stand out from the crowd. Signage Precautions: On receipt of signage you should take note of the 'sensible precautions for use' and application instructions supplied with the product. |
Getting the Best from Your Roof Sign!!!!
You need a roof sign to ensure the safety of your clients/ learners, essentially you are informing vehicles from behind that a learner driver is ahead and to allow a little time and patience, driving with just an L plate does not enforce that fact!
In addition, a well-designed roof sign is your advertisement and will bring in new business.
Less is best! the less cluttered your sign looks, the better the impact, we advise a maximum number of 3 lines of text and forget about special effects and logos, on average your sign has about 450x190 advertising space. If you want the passengers in a vehicle 3 to 4 or more cars behind or a person standing waiting for a bus, to be able to read and take note of your name and number!!!
While we are happy to accommodate your choice of wording and line spacing, remember that the most important messages to get across is your business name, web presence and contact number. Note that magnetic roof signs are designed to be attached to a uniform ferrous metal surface and will not operate on a panoramic glass roof, you may consider using a roof bar, (talk to us about other possibilities) or metal roof with large creases/ridges. Please ask if unsure of your vehicle's suitability.
Commonsense should always prevail always when using a roof sign. No manufacturer can give an absolute speed rating for a roof sign, it would be impossible to assess every type of car in every possible position on the car roof and in all weather and vehicle body conditions. What we can tell you is that the signs we supply at Driver Education Supplies have the strongest magnet assembly available in the Irish market.
Like all manufacturers we caution that any roof sign should not be used beyond the maximum speed limit in the Ireland, that is 120 kph and also caution that any roof sign should not be used in extreme winds. Consider what you’re your expecting your roof sign to cope with, if you are driving at 120 kph into a headwind gusting up to 80 kph then you are expecting the sign to cope with a net speed of 200 kph, we would never achieve the speed!
Always Remember Your Responsibilities
The driver is responsible for the vehicle and any load on it so the driver (or instructor teaching a client) is responsible for taking the decision as to whether a roof sign can be safely used for the proposed lesson in the prevailing conditions. Again, common sense is required. You should always ensure you have spare Magnetic L-Plates in your vehicle should you feel that conditions are too severe to risk using their roof sign.
Air resistance increases with the square of speed, so the traditional roof sign becomes a real drag as speed increases and the forces on it are substantial. Air resistance increases with the square of speed, so the traditional Apex roof sign becomes a real drag as your speed increases and the forces on it can be quite substantial.
Consider using one of our aero signs which are designed for reduced drag! Whichever sign you use, keep it in tip-top condition, and regularly check that the base of the roof sign is securely attached to the hood and that the magnet assemblies are secure. Never polish your vehicle too much, especially where the roof sign is being placed, always remove when going through car washes, clean your roof sign with warm soapy water and never use any hard abrasives.
